If you have been keeping up with my blog so far, then you already know that Cyberbullying is a big deal because the mass use of technology has caused over half of teens to experience cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can occur through various forms of technology ranging from cellphones to social media sites like Facebook. Many social media sites are publicly against cyberbullying. In fact, Facebook has actually made a commitment to put an end to cyberbullying. Facebook has made it very clear that they are against cyberbullying. According to an article written by Jordan Cook of Tech Crunch, a site that focusses on breaking technology news, Facebook has just recently launched a new page with the goal of raising more awareness about cyberbullying. In the article titled Facebook Reaffirms Its Commitment To Stop Cyber Bullying With New Activist Page, Partnership With The Ad Council, Cook makes it clear that this new tool/page “helps users navigate through different partners and all the specific actions that can be taken to prevent bullying, like how to report bullying and education around the Support Dashboard.” This shows that Facebook is making an effort to raise awareness on the issue. This social network website is also working with the Ad Council to produce and launch an advertising campaign which focuses on the prevention of bullying. Facebook is a very dominant voice in the conversation of cyberbullying and its prevention. As of now, Facebook seems to be focusing on raising awareness on cyberbullying but has made it clear that they would like to help prevent cyberbullying as well. Above is a revised draft of my third research post titled Facebook on Cyberbullying. One reason as to why I chose to edit this blog post was because the first sentence of my original post was not a good hook, meaning that it did not do a good job of grabbing the readers attention. The first sentence of my original post was "As of 2012, Facebook, one of the biggest social media sites in the world, has made it extremely clear that they are against cyberbullying and would like to see it come to an end." While this sentence explained what the blog post was written about it did not grab the readers attention or welcome them to the new post. The revised first sentence was "If you have been keeping up with my blog so far, then you already know that Cyberbullying is a big deal because the mass use of technology has caused over half of teens to experience cyberbullying." I used this sentence in my final draft because I think it did a good job of welcoming my old readers back to my blog. Another reason as to why I chose to revise my blog post is because that the conclusion of the original post was not strong. The final sentence of my original post was "I too asked myself these very questions when I first began conducting my research for my line of inquiry." This conclusion showed that I had not really reached a conclusion in my research for this post which took away from my reliability. My revised conclusion was "As of now, Facebook seems to be focusing on raising awareness on cyberbullying but has made it clear that they would like to help prevent cyberbullying as well." I thought that this was a better conclusion than my first because it shows what Facebook has been doing regarding cyberbullying but it does not take away from my reliability. I would also like to add that my ability to understand and express why I made the revisions that I made makes this a good example of critical reflection.
